I'm committed to your well-being

Welcome. I’m really glad you’re here.

Reaching out for counselling can feel like a big step- sometimes even finding the right words to begin can be hard. Whether you’re feeling overwhelmed, stuck, anxious, low in mood, navigating change or simply sensing that something isn’t right, you don’t have to go through it alone.

My practise offers a warm, confidential, caring space where you can slow down, let go and begin to explore what’s going on for you.

If you’re wanting to-

Increase your self-esteem and confidence through being in a space where you are allowed to be in tune with and embrace your authentic self

Calm and reduce your anxiety through being heard and validated

Boost your mood through having a non-judgemental person to help you understand the underlying causes and through being sensitively challenged to reframe negative thoughts and beliefs

Discover or rediscover you through having uninterrupted time, patience and an impartial listening ear

You’re in the right place….

I will be by your side, as we look together, at your own pace, to ease the stress, build confidence and help you lead a more contented life.

REGISTERED QUALIFIED COUNSELLOR

I'm Rachel, a qualified counsellor working online UK-wide and face to face in South Gloucestershire, offering talking therapy to give you space and time, for understanding, processing and healing.

I have always been interested in people; listening to their stories and life experiences and naturally finding myself wanting to put myself in their shoes to best understand them. This way of being, led me to being a counsellor; a non-judgemental, empathic listener who wants the best for her clients.

I have a special interest in working with those who are experiencing anxiety, depression, low self-esteem and perinatal mental health issues this is due to personal interest or personal experience in the area, allowing me to draw upon my own experience to further support my clients.

For my own wellbeing, I connect with others; spending time with good friends and family. I love being outside, in nature, walking my Goldendoodle Monty. I try my best to nourish and care for my body and mind through exercise, downtime and good food!

Integrative
counselling

Every person has the capacity for growth and change, when given the right conditions. When you have counselling sessions with me, I aim to provide you with a compassionate, non-judgemental space where you can truly feel seen and heard.

I am qualified to work in a way where I can draw upon different techniques to suit your needs, making therapy efficient and unique to you.

My work is rooted in a person-centred approach, which means I support you in a non-directive way to explore your feelings at your own pace. Your experiences are unique and you are the expert on your own life, I will not tell you what to do, yet will use techniques which will provide clarity to your thoughts and feelings. This can help you see a way forward.

Alongside this, I draw on psychodynamic thinking, which helps us to look beneath the surface, at what may be the root of the issue you are facing and consider how past experiences and relationships may be shaping the difficulties you are experiencing today. This deeper understanding can bring healing and the possibility for lasting change. Again this approach will be delivered in a sensitive and unique way to suit you as an individual.

I can also integrate psychoeducation, offering insights and information that may help you make sense of your experiences. Understanding what may be happening in your body and mind can be empowering. This in turn may reduce symptoms or make the management of them more effective.

FAQ’S

  • You may not have been feeling yourself for a little, or a long while. Not knowing quite what is challenging or bothering you. You or a loved one may have experienced a traumatic life event and you would like a place just for you to process your emotions. You may be struggling with your usual daily activities and responsibilities or having physical symptoms of a mental health illness or stress.

  • I am an Integrative counsellor. This means I blend methods from both the person-centred and psychodynamic modalities of therapy. I have found, in my work so far, that this gives an array of options to use during the session to offer a holistic approach.

  • When you come for your first counselling session, we’ll start by talking about what has brought you to counselling right now and what you hope to achieve. We’ll go through the counselling agreement, which outlines how we will work together; if there is anything you would like to clarify or perhaps change, so that it fits well for you. We will start to get to know each other and build our therapeutic relationship.

  • Sessions are open-ended and you are welcome to come for as long as you are finding them helpful. Sessions are usually held weekly either online or in person. This helps us to build a solid, trusting therapeutic relationship which is essential for your development. If you require a different frequency of session, please feel free to speak with me about this.

Therefore I would say there is not a definitive answer to this question.

  • You may know that counselling is working for you when you start noticing gradual shifts in how you think, feel and respond to challenges. You may become more self-aware, feel calmer or more hopeful. Your mood and relationships may improve too. We will check in regularly along the way to find out how you find your sessions are working for you.

  • Make contact with me by the method which suits you best: email, phone or through this website’s contact page. I will reply as soon as possible and book you in for an initial 15 minute free, no obligation phone call where we can discuss your needs and decide if we are a good fit to work together.
