to help your journey to wellness
SOUTH GLOUCESTERSHIRE, UK
I'm committed to your well-being
At times, life can feel overwhelming- especially when anxiety, stress or peri-natal changes begin to cloud your sense of peace and affect your daily life.
You may be finding that low self esteem or confidence is affecting where you would like to be in your life and are ready to work on this.
You may be feeling burnt out from your caring duties and needing space of your own to offload and take some much deserved space and time to take care of you!
Perhaps you are struggling to conceive, are pregnant or recently had a baby and notice that you need some support for your mental wellbeing at this life changing time.
You may be grieving or coming to terms with a loss and want some quiet time to do this in your own way.
My counselling practise offers you a kind, nurturing space, where you can pause, take time for you and be truly heard.
I can walk by your side as we work together, at your own pace to ease the pressure, build confidence and help you reconnect with, or find yourself.

REGISTERED QUALIFIED COUNSELLOR
I'm Rachel, a qualified counsellor working online UK-wide and face to face in South Gloucestershire, offering talking therapy to give you space and time, for understanding, processing and healing.
I have always been interested in people; listening to their stories and life experiences and naturally finding myself wanting to put myself in their shoes to best understand them. These personal attributes led me to being a counsellor; a non-judgemental, empathic listener who wants the best for her clients.
I have a special interest in working with those who are experiencing the issues below, this is due to personal interest or personal experience in the area, allowing me to draw upon my own experience to further support my clients.
For my own wellbeing, I connect with others; spending time with good friends and family. I love being outside, in nature, walking my Goldendoodle Monty. I try my best to nourish and care for my body and mind through exercise, downtime and good food!

Anxiety is one of the most common mental health difficulties and is something I have worked with often in the therapy room. It can show up as constant worry, racing thoughts, ruminating, panic attacks, physical symptoms such as a tight chest, nausea, light headedness, difficulty sleeping or a feeling of being hypervigilant and constantly on edge.
While anxiety is a natural response to stress, it can become overwhelming and unpleasant when it overbears and interferes with your daily life. You might start to avoid doing things like leaving the house or meeting up with friends because of how you are feeling, this may cause temporary relief but will not ease your anxiety in the long run.
Many people struggle silently, believing they should be able to ‘cope better’ but anxiety is not a personal failure or anything to be ashamed about.
There will be a reason, either in your awareness or not as to why you are experiencing anxiety symptoms. Through counselling with me I can help you understand what is driving your anxiety , develop practical tools to manage anxious thoughts and learn techniques to manage panic and stress.
Whether you are dealing with generalised anxiety, social anxiety, panic attacks or stress-related anxiety, therapy can help you feel more balanced, a reduction in your symptoms and able to enjoy life again.

Grief due to loss, is no doubt something that all of us will experience at some point in our lives. How the process goes for us can be helped by having people around us in the way of friends, family, support groups or professional support. Grieving looks different for everyone and expressing your grief is individual too. Talking may be too difficult some days but other days that may be all you need to do. Writing a letter, journalling or looking back at photos and keepsakes are all ways which can help ease the intense emotions felt when grieving.
-
Being a carer can bring a mix of emotions, fulfilment, pride, joy, stress, resentment, exhaustion, the list goes on. All of your feelings are valid. You may be caring for the person who would normally be your ‘go to’ for sharing such emotions but find this is not currently an option or appropriate. I can provide you with your much deserved space to offload. I have experience of supporting carers through my work at a wonderful local community hospice.

Low self-esteem and a lack of confidence are very common issues that can affect how you see yourself, your relationships and your ability to enjoy life. Having low self-esteem and confidence can show up as self-doubt, people-pleasing, a fear of failure and feeling ‘not good enough’ even when others see your strengths. Low self-esteem often develops through past experiences, relationships or ongoing stress. Overtime it can impact your mental health, contributing to anxiety and depression.
In therapy we can discover the roots of your low self-esteem and start to build new, healthier ways of thinking about yourself and adopting self compassion.

Having a baby is one of those big life events that you can never be fully prepared for. You may take to motherhood with ease, have a straight forward birth and have a good support network, or the opposite on some or all accounts. Either way, often the drastic change in lifestyle can leave you feeling a shadow of your former self. You may have had a traumatic birth, developed a mental health illness or had a pre-existing one rear it’s head again. The lack of sleep and demands of a new baby leave little space and time for you to take stock and consider yourself and your wellbeing. If you can resonate with some of this, I could be there for you, to support you, whilst you are supporting someone else.
To sit with you when you may be feeling isolated, anxious or low in mood. When you want to start doing something for you and your wellbeing. I hope my lived experience and training will allow me to help you on your peri-natal journey.
Integrative
counselling
Every person has the capacity for growth and change, when given the right conditions. When you have counselling sessions with me, I aim to provide you with a compassionate, non-judgemental space where you can truly feel seen and heard.
I am qualified to work in a way where I can draw upon different techniques to suit your needs, making therapy efficient and unique to you.
My work is rooted in a person-centred approach, which means I support you in a non-directive way to explore your feelings at your own pace. Your experiences are unique and you are the expert on your own life, I will not tell you what to do, yet will use techniques which will provide clarity to your thoughts and feelings. This can help you see a way forward.
Alongside this, I draw on psychodynamic thinking, which helps us to look beneath the surface, at what may be the root of the issue you are facing and consider how past experiences and relationships may be shaping the difficulties you are experiencing today. This deeper understanding can bring healing and the possibility for lasting change. Again this approach will be delivered in a sensitive and unique way to suit you as an individual.
I can also integrate psychoeducation, offering insights and information that may help you make sense of your experiences. Understanding what may be happening in your body and mind can be empowering. This in turn may reduce symptoms or make the management of them more effective.

FAQ’S
-
You may not have been feeling yourself for a little, or a long while. Not knowing quite what is challenging or bothering you. You or a loved one may have experienced a traumatic life event and you would like a place just for you to process your emotions. You may be struggling with your usual daily activities and responsibilities or having physical symptoms of a mental health illness or stress.
-
I am an Integrative counsellor. This means I blend methods from both the person-centred and psychodynamic modalities of therapy. I have found, in my work so far, that this gives an array of options to use during the session to offer a holistic approach.
-
When you come for your first counselling session, we’ll start by talking about what has brought you to counselling right now and what you hope to achieve. We’ll go through the counselling agreement, which outlines how we will work together; if there is anything you would like to clarify or perhaps change, so that it fits well for you. We will start to get to know each other and build our therapeutic relationship.
-
Sessions are open-ended and you are welcome to come for as long as you are finding them helpful. Sessions are usually held weekly either online or in person. This helps us to build a solid, trusting therapeutic relationship which is essential for your development. If you require a different frequency of session, please feel free to speak with me about this.
Therefore I would say there is not a definitive answer to this question.
-
You may know that counselling is working for you when you start noticing gradual shifts in how you think, feel and respond to challenges. You may become more self-aware, feel calmer or more hopeful. Your mood and relationships may improve too. We will check in regularly along the way to find out how you find your sessions are working for you.
